The Birrany & Mulungan Business Report documents a powerful youth engagement initiative developed by Taronga Western Plains Zoo in partnership with the NSW Office of Regional Youth.
The program, named using the Wiradjuri words for "young male" and "young female," supports Indigenous students in Dubbo through immersive, hands-on experiences with wildlife care, cultural connection, and vocational education. Designed to build confidence, belonging and educational engagement, the program has helped over 160 students reconnect with learning and transition into volunteering or formal training roles within the Zoo and beyond.
The design of the 16-page report is clean, grounded and accessible, incorporating licensed Indigenous artwork, infographics, and strong photographic storytelling. A focus on narrative-based pedagogy and real-world case studies brings the impact of the program to life, while clearly structured content highlights measurable outcomes across education, wellbeing, and community connection. The document serves both as a celebration of youth success and a practical record of meaningful, long-term impact in regional NSW.
